I'm Ariella!

If there was one thing I am called to do in this life, it is to help us all fall a little more in love with the Earth and its creatures, including humanity.  This blog centers on threads of that nature, from bees, to dreams, to the land.

hello,

I teach, share lectures, and do mentorship in the areas of natural beekeeping, dreams, and the sacred feminine.

What follows is an account of bee shamanism and what it was, what it is, and what it is not. It is an account of the current controversy with Simon Buxton and the Sacred Trust, and the revelations recently reveals regarding the myth of an ancient lineage. This post has been updated as of January 5, from it’s original posting on December 12 to include new information that has come to light.

What is Bee Shamanism?

Bee shamanism, is a form of animistic, earth-based practice centered around the honey bee. It is something that belongs to anyone who feels called to the bees, and is both global and very specific.

On a global level, bee shamanism is about working with the bee hive as a central guide, metaphor, and teacher in one’s personal spiritual practice.

However, the bee shamanism that many people have come to my site to learn about, does not in fact, exist in the form we had believed. This is a fairly recent revelation that came to light at the end of 2023, and carries ongoing fall out. To be clear, this scandal began years ago, and I have been pursuing understanding the truth of it for some time, but the bulk of revelations came forward in the fall of 2023.

If you are interested in learning about the controversy, my history with this work, and more, please read below.

On a specific level, there was a kind of bee shamanism that was taught at the Sacred Trust in the UK. This is the bee shamanism I dedicated a decade of my life to, and have experienced profound and deeply enriching transformation from. In late 2023 a scandal arose around one of the founders of The Sacred Trust, Simon Buxton.

The Sacred Trust is a non-profit organization in the UK where classes and workshops were offered in two veins.  One is Classical Shamanism (still taught today), offered by Simon Buxton. The other was bee shamanism, when was presented as women’s tradition, and in recent years went under the name “The Lyceum”.  The Lyceum was, and has only been, taught by women. It was a gynocentric/wombic pathway, working with the womb as a spiritual center within the body, much as one might work with the heart chakra, or third eye.

This article hopes to address what I know of bee shamanism and the scandal and how it relates to my practice. I will attempt to give you the information as it has been shared with me. As always, use what I share to draw your own conclusions. I do not want to try to convince you of anything. One of the most dangerous things we can do in a scandal, is to make assumptions, and so I will try my best not to.

ADDRESSING THE CONTROVERSY

THE STORY THAT WAS TOLD:

In 2010 I was introduced to a gorgeous body of work by Naomi Lewis and Kate Shela which centered around embodied women’s spirituality, womb shamanism, the honey bee, the serpent, and modalities for healing, seership, and dream tending. I studied with Naomi Lewis and other female faculty at The Sacred Trust from 2010-2019, completing the 3 year Return of the Pythoness training, which was meant to support those of us who wanted to bring this work into the world. From my perspective and experience, what my teachers brought forward in workshops and ceremony was done so with integrity and a lasting commitment to the earth, womb wisdom, and the feminine principal. However, much of the “tradition” aspect of the work was shared in veiled terms, and at time even avoided. There was very little substantial evidence provided regarding the true origins of the work, or where my teacher’s learned the practices. We were told that it was an unbroken lineage.

The history of European Bee Shamanism, as we were told, involved a folk tradition that had been passed down since ancient times by beekeepers and the melissae (women pracitioners of these ways). The women who came before our teachers were said to have claimed that this tradition reached all the way back to the Ancient Greek bee priestesses (melissae).

However, our contact with this history came through Simon Buxton. Simon wrote a book, The Shamanic Way of the Bee in 2006. In his book, and in personal discussion, Simon shares that he met a man named Bridge when Simon was in his late 20s. Bridge self-identified as The Bee Master. He took Simon on as an apprentice and introduced him to the rest of his small group of practitioners, a group of 6 women known as melissae, and led by a Lithuanian woman known as The Bee Mistress.

It is important to note here, that even in the early days of this work, some evidence of plagiarism was found in Simon’s book. That plagiarism was of the work of PL Travers. When I directly questioned Simon about this plagiarism in 2022, he said he was close, personal friends with PL Travers, that he included her words in his book as an “homage”, and that the publishers forgot to give her credit. While I don’t want to assume anything, it has become quite clear that Simon did not in fact know Travers, nor did his publishers accidentally omit citation.

Simon shares publicly and in his book, that he was asked to become the Emissary of this tradition and write the book. He introduced this work to Kate Shela and Naomi Lewis. However, he claims that in 1999, before Naomi and Kate had a chance to meet either the Bee Master or the Bee Mistress, both of these elders died.

One of the women from the original group, Vivienne became the next Bee Mistress and moved back to Lithuania. She agreed to meet with Naomi, which we were first told happened in person, and later told happened only on the phone. According to Simon, Vivienne took Naomi and Kate on as her charges, inviting them to carry the work forward.

Simon in turn compiled much of the information that had been taught to him, and passed it on to Naomi and Kate. While it has never been stated that the teachings and practices came from Simon in written form, many of us have drawn the conclusion that the majority of the practices that were ‘handed down”, did not come from Vivienne, but instead came from Simon. Simon has shared that once he introduced the tradition to Kate and Naomi, it was up to the two women to choose what to teach and how to teach it, since, Simon claims, it was a women’s tradition, and not for him to teach.

While I never took any courses from Simon, I did speak to him twice on the matter of both plagiarism and the reality of this tradition. I spoke to him once 2017, after someone dear to me said the entire tradition was fabricated. At that time, both Simon and Naomi shared that it was indeed a real tradition, and Simon gave me convincing details of experiences with the melissae and Bridge. In 2022, another upheaval took place with shared students of Gabriela Gutierrez and myself. The issue of Simon’s plagiarism became paramount and I spoke with him at length once more regarding the veracity of this tradition, as well as the plagiarism. At that time it was only known that he plagiarized PL Travers in his book. I was also informed that I was one of only 2 people that had ever asked him directly about the plagiarism. I do not believe this to be true.

What I did not take into account was the possibility that Simon Buxton was lying directly to me. As an example, he spoke to me about Naomi traveling to spend time with the cell of bee women, and that they taught her how to make bread and other every day tasks in a “Pollen tradition” way. Only recently did I discover that this never happened, and that Naomi did not know Simon had been fabricating stories about her personal spiritual experience.

THE TRUTH AS I Now Know IT:

In fall of 2023 an alumni of the Lyceum, Chelsy Arber, began digging into Simon’s book and discovered more plagiarism. After making this known publicly on social media, a number of women got involved with researching the book as well as Simon’s past. Over 60 separate instances of plagiarism were discovered in the book, as well as some highly concerning evidence that much of the “Path of Pollen” practices may have been lifted from other practitioners and occultists. This is still being researched, namely by alumni Chelsy Arber and Marie Lloyd.

Due to these recent findings, Naomi Lewis and the staff at The Sacred Trust had a meeting with Simon in early November 0f 2023 in which he admitted that much of what was written of as history in the Shamanic Way of the Bee, was in fact, events that happened in “non-ordinary” reality, aka dreams, visions, journeys, etc. This means that much of what is written of or shared with students as a real lineage, was in fact not based on real events.

Naomi and the staff of the Sacred Trust claim they were unaware of the degree of plagiarism in his book (although they were aware of the plagiarism of PL Travers), nor other evidence that his story was false.

Due to these revelations, all staff left the Sacred Trust and immediately stopped teaching European bee shamanism. The are currently in the process sifting through the ashes, so to speak, and hopefully, they will find a way to transform and carry on their beautiful work without the trappings of false claims, just as many of us are attempting to do too.

What is most troubling, is that while Naomi did meet a woman called Vivienne on the phone, it is unclear who exactly this person was, and if any kind of bee tradition actually existed. Naomi has shared that she is still attempting to discern this information, which leaves all of her students, and those of us who teach this work at a loss.

We can not accurately say if everything was fabricated/stolen, or if there was in fact a small group of Melissae who passed on some form of bee shamanism to Simon. Many people believe it is all a sham, but whatever the truth is, I believe we will never know for certain. Is there a strong folk tradition around bees and beekeeping in Lithuania? Yes. Is there a strong vein of Celtic shamanism in Britain? Yes. Were there priestesses known as bees (melissae) in Ancient Greece, and were bees connected to the oracular temple of Delphi? Yes and yes. The bee and the serpent remain profoundly sacred and tied to many mystery traditions. We simply can not know if the people Simon claims to have met were real, and if they were real, whether they are actually part of an in tact bee shamanism tradition. Due to Simon’s continued lies, there is much to be doubted.

Also, due to the culture of lies that Simon has created, it is difficult for alumni to discern what is true and how much the staff actually knew about the truth of the tradition. There has been much speculation, anger, accusation, doubt, and pain. It’s terribly sad to see and experience, and I can not offer any more “fact” other than what I am sharing and the understanding that we will never really know the full story.

This has been a deeply painful experience for myself and many others. If you find yourself feelings hurt, angry, or cast adrift, may I remind us all, that we came here for the bees and for some ineffable mystery. The bees and the mystery remain, even in the face of such heartbreaking controversy.

WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?

In a recent email from December 2023, Naomi shared her experience of the phone calls with Vivienne, and her doubt as to whether any of the bee women existed at all. According to Naomi, Vivienne was a Lithuanian American woman who Naomi spoke to on the phone many times, and from whom Naomi received what in shamanism would be called transmissions. Ultimately, Naomi does not know who Vivienne really was and how if at all she was or was not connected to the tradition Simon spoke of. It is clear through Naomi’s correspondence (sent to past students), that much of was was passed on from the supposed group of practitioners of what Simon called The Path of Pollen, all came from Simon. As in, most messages, save for the phone calls, came through Simon. Naomi herself, shares she did not know of the extent of Simon’s lie until November of 2023.

I would love to say that contact with the ex-staff from the Sacred Trust is fluid and frequent, but sadly, I have had to wait like the rest of us for bits of information to come through. I have tried to wait until I have as many pieces of the puzzle as possible, but this is an ongoing process, and everyone is still thick in the shock of it. I feel tremendous compassion for everyone involved: ex-staff, alumni, and all those who felt the book deeply resonate with them.

What I can say is this:

The women who have taught these practices and ceremonies over the last decade are incredibly dedicated to the healing and flowering of the feminine principal. They have added many of their own practices to this work, and brought forward a kind of womb shamanism reclaiming that the world is clearly in need of. They have encouraged us to expand on the practices, trust our own inner spiritual authority, listen to the wisdom of our bodies, and go directly to spirit to seek our own truths and revelations. What happened in the temple space for myself and many other women was profound, beautiful, confronting, awakening, ecstatic, and life-changing.

We all wanted the story of an unbroken lineage to be true. Hearing that there are no roots is devastating to many, myself included. As a white Californian, descended from settlers, living on unceded First Nations land, it was particularly powerful to find an Earth-based tradition that had roots in my ancestral lands. Beyond this, as someone who has academically studied the conversion to Christianity over the centuries, and the brutal, systemic eradication of women’s spirituality and sovereignty, I felt deep and cathartic relief when I discovered the SOMETHING survived.

I can imagine that reading this tugs on some of the same heartstrings for many of you.

What I can say, despite not knowing what was “real”, is that something DID survive. Perhaps not in an intact tradition, but in our bones. It survived in the way the bees continue to teach us of ourselves and our connection to the earth. It survived in our blood memory, breath memory, star memory, womb memory. It survived in our dancing, and our dedication. It survived in our ability to tap into the same vein of truth and knowing the oracles of Delphi sourced from.

We may not be able to say we are initiates of the Path of Pollen, or bee priestesses of an ancient lineage of Melissae, but we can say we are apprenticed to the bees, the stars, the snakes, the spiders, the web, the weave, the soil, the moon.

I am extremely disinterested in allowing the decay of Patriarchy, or one man’s deceit, to rob me of the very womb practices and connections to spirit that brought my long-desired daughter into my arms.

HOW WILL MY WORK CHANGE?

I wish I could provide a concrete answer, but the sands are still shifting and this controversy is still unfolding.

Due to the very public nature of my work, and the conversations I’ve had with both Simon and Naomi about the veracity of this tradition, many have assumed I have an inside line with the ex-faculty of the Sacred Trust. While I wish that were true (we all want more answers), it is not. I am left waiting for answers that will never truly satisfy. I may teach this work, but I am also an alumni of the work myself, adrift with the rest of you.

What I can commit to is my dedication to the kinship and spiritual connection we share with the bees, the earth, and the womb shamans of old. I will continue to do my best to introduce practices based on where they actually came from, or where we think they might have come from. I will also be the first to admit that I don’t know.

Many of you have asked me to continue to teach bee shamanism despite the controversy. I am not comfortable with teaching bee shamanism in the same manner that it was taught to me, but I promise not to throw away beautiful practices that empower women, nor the dedication and time it took me to develop my art and practice. I can no longer present bee shamanism as a tradition or even a folk pathway. The story, mythos, and authority behind the tradition are gone.

However, some of the practices remain potent, universal, and belonging to the earth and the the body. For instance, I will continue to work with the lemniscate, or infinity symbol, as it is found everywhere, from the way bees dance and communicate, to the analemma of the sun star.

I promise you my authenticity, my transparency, and my willingness to continue walking into the mystery of it all.

With love,

Ariella

Thanks for sharing this article Ariella. A little bit of my heart has been chipped away with hearing about the uncertainty of the veracity of bee shamanism as a European tradition. Plus the plagiarism. You must be very sad about this, especially since you’ve spent a long time studying and bee-ing. But you are a fabulous teacher and the spirit of the bee dwells within you and guides you. Since taking some of your courses I’ve looked at the bees I tend differently, as if they are my shaman-teachers. I’ve had some mystical experiences. I’ve also gone deeper into understanding the feminine because of what the bees show me. Perhaps this is the Great Teaching, to pay attention to the tiny yet powerful beings who will bring us home to who we are meant to be and why we are here in the matrix.

    • Ariella Daly says:

Thank you so much for your kind word Anjeleca. Yes indeed I am very sad. I spent so long looking for answers and thinking I was receiving truthful answers from Simon and Naomi, and now all is cast into shadow and doubt. But the bees never left me, and this is the thread that remains pure and true. Much love!

  2. Melisa says:

Thank you for this, as a complete newcomer who only found Simon’s book some 6-8 months ago, only to a month later learn of the plagiarism etc. I will share my perspective as someone who has been called by the bees.

In the face of all this chaos and confusion, I deeply love Elizabeth Ashley’s book Meeting The Melissae. Because although we may not be able to directly correlate all the practices etc. and although the history isn’t so fully preserved that we could run things as they did, the evidence of the spirit of a divine feminine bee centric worship is all there in history EVERYWHERE! I am content with finding threads of sacred bee centric spirituality and leaning in intuitively to what most resonates for my healing, the healing of the bees, and the healing of the planet.

Simon’s book provided a vital confirmation that I wasn’t alone in being called by the bees. That’s really all I needed from him.

Now we go forward giving nod as you do beautifully to what we DO know from ancient history. And leaning into our own inner-knowing with bee shamanism. Which is what every system on the planet right now is begging of us anyways.

As within, so without; as above, so below.
The great patriarchal demise, re-structuring, in micro form.

  4. Megan says:

Thank-you so much the heart felt authenticity and transparency in this post. I deeply honour your work and spirit walk. Sending blessings to you and all on this medicine path in this difficult time.

  5. Megan K says:

Well said. This is a difficult path for us all, reclaiming our sovereignty and who we are. There will be many twists and turns and setbacks. What is most important is that we stay in community. Blessings to the crossroads and the path we all pick to move forward through this.

  6. Mary says:

Before I read Simon’s book. I visited Dephi and remembered the ancient ways of the Bee Priestesses. We know these ways in our wombs and in our bones. When I discovered The Sacred Trust in 2011. I was thrilled to be surrounded by women who were remembering. We are the Ancient ones remembering who we are. we are called to return to each other Nothing can take that away. The lies have been there for hundreds of years. We are free

    • Ariella Daly says:

This has been the dominate feeling, despite the sadness. A true feeling of liberation. Thank you Mary.

  7. Laurence says:

Thank you for having the courage to share this, Ariella. I daresay some practitioners with less integrity will simply double down on the denial, especially if they’ve built their livelihood around Buxton’s practices.

Having learned my first shamanic techniques through Buxton in 2022 after a difficult period in my life, and finding them utterly transformative, I was heartbroken to learn about this controversy shortly afterwards. I contacted the Sacred Trust, and ended up on a Zoom call with Buxton, where he made his case. Ultimately, the story he told me is not convincing – particularly in light of your account, and others which are springing up more and more as of last year.

What are we to do? I think the practices can be healing for people, but we owe people the truth, as best we know it. Would it be better if we started calling it ritual theatre? European bee keeping folklore and folk practices are there for seekers of these ways, out in the ether, in books, and in the living hearts of old bee keepers: A friend of mine (not shaman!) once told me about the practice of talking to his bees, which was passed down to him. I worry that if we carry on down the “mystery school” route, we risk unjustifiably setting ourselves up in a position of authority over those who would seek to learn.

I wish you strength at this difficult time. Speaking the (painful!) truth is never the wrong decision, and your authenticity gives me hope. As the Sacred Trust still appears to be offering some teachings, it is so valuable there are articles like yours up on the web – hopefully it will help prospective healers make the right choice and avoid some unnecessary heartache down the line…

    Blessings

    • Ariella Daly says:

With you in all this enquiry. I’ve personally turned evermore toward the folklore that is plentiful throughout Europe. You spoke of "telling the bees" which is one my core practices and teachings. Such a great example of the bee practices available to us all.

  8. Tia Tuenge says:

Wow! I just learned of this controversy, so sad. I read Simon’s book this past spring and I loved it so much, I read slowly so I could savor it.
His supposed initiation experiences seemed harrowing to say the least and it’s so disappointing that it’s a lie.
That said I’m thrilled to have discovered you! I’m listening to your resent interview on Medicine Stories.
And regardless of the fact that Simon made up the story the bees are the truth and I believe there is evidence that women have been working with bees for thousands of years. There may not be an intact lineage but as you said we remember in our blood and bones.
I look forward to taking a class from you in the future.

  9. louise says:

you are a beautiful example of the bits that matter – quite literally you have ‘mater’ialised them – from the themes and feelings that we [I was Way of Melissae 2010, and I will remember fondly our Lyceum of the Lower Mouth gathering in Bath 2015 for the rest of my life] absorbed. We didn’t learn anything so much as remember what it is to have each other, and whilst it’s incredibly sad and uncomfortable to hear about all this oddness from Simon (I actually never met him) it’s another age-old story, and we mustn’t throw the baby out with the bath water. the friendships, the shared faith, the hives, the support, the simple will to look behind the scenes whilst navigating polite society. None of that goes just because one man turns out to be a dick. There’s simply no way he has, or had, that power!! ever. I can’t quite parcel it right now, not into words anyway, but I have this strong and even mischievous sense, that it doesn’t really matter, the context, if we ladies met each other and got to share each other’s pain and joy so deeply, got to know and feel that we had each other on celestial speed dial, and managed to transmute that into our daily lives and livelihoods. I have run with the remedies gratefully for 14 years, and it served me well in all areas of life, and the friendships I made are untouchable. Always history shows us there are tricksters everywhere, and yet the womb finds the humility to both giggle a bit, cry a lot and say ‘fuck it, I know who I am’ when all is said and done. I think I’m somewhere in the middle of all that at this point, only just hearing about this today. From the ashes the phoenix will rise etc, and anon.

    • Ariella Daly says:

Thank you Louise! I agree, none of the goodness goes "just because one man turns out to a dick" as you say. I refuse to let a man’s choices take away the potency of my own life’s work.

  10. Beewitching Titanilla says:

As a historian, I am not surprised at all – we have to be very careful even with historical “facts” never mind secret ways, folk traditions.

I believe we are rewriting HERstory. And the bees are guiding us. What you teach is meaningful and authentic.

  11. Simi says:

    Dear Ariella,
i joined your Shift network courses, and found / still find them very beneficial in terms of learning about the Feminine, shamanism and animism…Shorty after joining, I started to read Simon Buxtons book, but somehow did not "get into it", perhaps because, as a student of folk traditions myself, I believe true folk knowledge is openly shared and passed on rather than taught in a priviledged sect-like organisation – I am very honest here- this is what Sacred Trust appeared to me- from my outsiders view.
I am so sorry this controversity affected your sincere work and efforts to protect the bees. Please do not be discouraged to continue and find new ways of teaching.
Your work is amazing, and you are set free now to develop it further- without any constraint of an !organisation! aka rigid framework…
We all have to be so careful not to fall for charismatic leaders. But after all, everyone has free will and to those who complain now about being deceived, I wish they find forgiveness and grace – see it as a lifes lesson – it happens to all of us at some point!
Anyhow, lets all focus on the good work and not dwell in sorrow… do you know this beautiful book "Dancing with Bees" by Brigit Strawbridge Howard? It is an ode to wildlife and bees :))
    Much Love to you,
    Simone

    • Ariella Daly says:

      Dear Simi,

Thank you. I’m so glad that the courses are still beneficial. They are so much deeper and more than the pain of this controversy. It’s certainly an odd situation many of us find ourselves in, since most of the women who studied these ways never actually worked with Simon or his classes, since he didn’t teach bee shamanism. I find it quite strange that he created something that he didn’t actually teach, and something that he maintained was women’s work and a women’s tradition that he was merely a guest to. What I can say, is that even within organizations with leaders that mislead, the beauty of the teachings that the people themselves bring forward extends beyond the confines of deception. It’s to the bee women I work with I feel continued spiritual truths evolving and being re-awakened/remembered. Thanks for the book suggestion! I’ll certainly check it out.

  12. David says:

I really appreciate this information and am really glad that I was brought here.
I most definitely do feel the connection that we have with the Bee. What’s very clear to me is that for as long as humans and Bee’s have evolved together there have been those who have seen the wisdom there. That’s the unbroken line I feel blessed to be a part of. Glad to meet those that remember. ☀️

    • Ariella Daly says:

Thanks David. I can’t agree more – the connection to the bee shines through all the confusion of human error.

  13. Laura Bee says:

    Ariella,
The bees have taught us, the serpent too. The breathwork, the dancing, the earth, mystery, herstory and stars have become our practices and knowing. The misrepresentation of "truth" is the only wound here, the betrayal of origin story and the belief that it needed to come through some cultural bloodline is the lie. It comes to us directly from Source, regardless of the key that opened the door. In our program at the College of the Melissae (currently also on sabbatical) we taught that we need to authenticate our knowing> where did this vision or knowing come from? Each student is asked if this knowing came from a dream, a tantric moment, a meditation, from the voice of the bee? We taught this to teach that this wisdom is available to us all! It does not need to come from a teacher, or master, or a lineage, or other….but from HER. It is accessible as easily as breath, is our birthright. It is simple and true and exists as long as our beloved bees are here to teach us.
However we got here, we must not give up. There is no one above us, nor below us. We are all equal in this web of life. Our bees teach us first. We need only to open to this knowing. Everything else is practice and ways to open up our minds to knowing. If it is true for you, it is authentic. Lineage is ownership, the bee is free.
Many blessings, as ever, on your continued work. May you create your own lineage as you are a gifted teacher. We are both the ancestors and the infants. We begin within.
    With respect,
    Laura Bee

Wow. I just finished this book tonight for the first time, and was very moved by it. Wanting to dig deeper, I did a google search and here you are. Strange how recent this information is. I can only imagine how betrayed you must feel, but also recognize your level of spiritual development to persevere and remain attuned with faith to your personal path with the bees. I believe we are taken places for a reason, and although Simon seems to have written this book without full honesty, it is profound nonetheless, and I have no doubt that fostering a deeper connections to this incredible spiritual relative, the honey bee, has had profound and positive impacts in many lives. In that respect I reserve my judgements of Simon, and let my faith in the manifestations of the universe and the unknown ways through light and dark that they can guide and influence our lives toward our own developments… which are always an unfoldment of the great mystery. Best to you on your journey, and may the bees be with you and us forever.

I know you shouldn’t judge a book by the cover but… how bad was that cover, seriously? Red and black cut and paste graphics, nothing artistic, sacred or shamanic about the cover. Also seeing the word "Shaman" in large print on a cover is always a red flag for me in this era of new age "shamanic" click bait where everyone seems to be a self proclaimed shaman after a few plant medicine ceremonies and trips to sacred sites. A real shaman in todays crazy world would rarely refer to their self as one. They are the real healers. So ya, the cover was full of red flags but the story inside was an incredible page turning journey for sure, i stayed up late reading… so imaginative! I remember thinking… this is just a story, theres no proof, but a great story! Also… why is this one man somehow allowed into the womens bee mystery lineage and allowed to write a book to the world about it? Hmmm. Anyways… Thanks so much for your honesty and commitment to preserving the majesty and the mythos surrounding the bees and the sacred multi-dimensions of life they steward as the noble ancient life giving matriarchal bee-ings they are. LOVE your work! Blessings!

  17. Nancy Johanson says:

    Dear Ariella,
My husband just brought Simon’s book into our living room, excited about reading it. I got it after taking several of your classes online years ago. Mentioning the controversy, I googled and found your piece, and read it aloud for both of us. Really distressing, sad. Feels like something beautiful has been taken from all of us, and tarnished. Not everything.. It comes on the heels of losing our last hive this winter. Such a strong hive which he cared for lovingly. We miss them and are grieving. They left us with beautiful honey, some of which we are saving in the hopes of giving a warm welcome to a new swarm this spring. Last spring, a swarm landed in our lilac bush, 10 feet from our back door. May it happen again!
This morning as I read your words, sun poured in the window. I feel a new re-kindling, a fresh longing, reverence and love for honeybees. For bees who may find us again, and allow us to serve and learn from them. Somehow, I feel more dedicated than before.
Thank you for reminding us that the bees are the Teachers.
    Thank you for being, Nancy
(IMG_8433.jpg This picture of our hive may or may not appear).

Thank you Ariella for placing the heart at the centre of all this. During my 3 visits to the Sacred Trust around 2015 I felt the abundant qualities of theatre, play, mystery and heart were enough to dispel, for me at least, distracting questions of authenticity and provenance which were already in the air and dare I say if engaged as is ‘tricksters’ desire, I would risked becoming stuck in some icky stuff. Instead I met and interacted with people with hearts which beamed like the sun, enjoyed many mysterious encounters with the land, given pointers to many higher teachings which have continued to lead me on and, in general had a good ol’ time. ‘New age’ shamanism by its nature has many inherent teachings about how to make higher distinctions. May sacred circles continue to be planted, flourish and spiral ever upwards.

  19. Julie Ivison says:

    Dear Ariella,
I thank you so much for your courses. The feminine, the love, the honey has been missing from the world and I WANT it back, we NEED it back. After completing Intentional Dreaming with The Shift Network I signed up for what was to be the last Way of the Melissae in September 2023 and then I read Simons book.
I was so angry, it was ridiculous to me, " she looked up and whispered provocatively with a triumphant grin, You will ride your broom stick tonight, emissary!" Reality or a mans daydream… and this was the founder of the Sacred Trust.
Not again, not again…not another man ruining women’s sacred spirituality, but the work, your work, the women teachings.. I TRUSTED and I flew to England and the whole experience was so beautiful.
I am glad that this has happened, it had too. I hope and wish that you and all the other bee women continue to teach what has been hidden, but not lost, now is the right time.
Simon was a drone, a singer, he sang the bee’s song, like an ancient lullaby awakening the pythoness. I have forgiven him, my anger has gone and I hope all who have experienced the beautiful mediations and wisdom lectures that he shared will too.
But also you must forgive yourself for needing this work to have a "his" story, for needing the title of Melissae. You don’t need it, you are it.
    Warm Wishes Julie

  20. Lisa says:

Thank you for your honesty and clarity. I was just checking offerings from the sacred trust today only to discover that the path of pollen had disappeared. I have practiced with bee sisters over the years and feel saddened how this deceipt has come to pass. But as you say, it may not be an unbroken lineage in one sense but there is clearly a yearning for the return of womb centric Magick and women’s rites.. and wisdom of the bees. And that knowledge is in our bones and in our wombs. Much love to you and gratitude for all that you bring.

  21. Araris Dresden says:

I have found you after finishing the book. We do not know each other. Having been around shamanic studies and as home brewer of mead, I was both attracted to the title and enjoyed the myth that I assumed I was reading. I hadn’t realized it was meant to be taken literally until after I read the last chapter.

I write this to say, as a fellow American, I know what it is to be taught lies but love the subject regardless. Those beautiful lies have a spirit of truth. The truth that calls to us to make true in practice.

Please forgive me if what preceded this took the tone of assumed superiority. I am in awe of what you teach and the story that you have told through your public voice.

I look forward to the possibility of an actual Path of the Pollen being created, here and now. So long as the Mother allows us to live upon her, thousands of years from now, people looking for this path will have that many years of knowledge to lean upon.

I would love to help in anyway that I can.
